Architectural Pop is a collection of buildings with surreal color-pop backgrounds. For her Unsplash+ x Facet collection, Simone Hutsch zeroed in on Facet’s many fill tools, including Gradient Fill, Solid Color Fill, and Noise Fill. Given the sheer number of images she wanted to produce, Facet’s batch editing capabilities were critical—allowing her edits of one image to automatically apply across the rest of her images—and opened her up to testing out multiple visual directions before settling on a final set of edits. Batch editing tools also let her “quickly explore through trial and error how to make colors in my building pop” or make her images feel more balanced. Simone’s signature backgrounds—abstracted color gradients—intentionally imbue her images with “surrealism and mystery.” She “isolates and abstracts the backgrounds using Facet’s automasking tool so that all the attention is drawn to the details of a building: the structures, facades, windows, etc.,” asking the viewer to engage more intimately with the buildings in her photos and the architectural landscapes that surround us everyday.
