Facet will be shutting down on 10/31/24.
Thank you for all the amazing support over the last 7(!) years. The wild roller-coaster ride that our team has been on is dwarfed only by the enormous tidal change happening to the tone and nature of creative work. New tools give rise to new mediums, and each new medium fundamentally changes how we grow and come together as humans.
When we started Facet, the state of the art in image generation looked like this:
but Matt and I were captivated by the shape of the opportunity. What if the machine was able to understand the visual world the same way the artist did? What new types of human<->machine collaboration would that unlock? Crossing the carbon-silicon communication divide using language that we already understood.
Raising a seed round in 2017.
I’m proud of the team for our pioneering work in generative-first creative tools, pushing the limits of what is possible with AI + advanced computer graphics. The content-aware automasking we pioneered in 2017 is now a staple feature of most, if not all high-end creative applications. Now, every pixel has a name.
Our region-based image generation tools are fueling dreams and nightmares in both open source and proprietary image generation applications. Creative work is now firmly rooted in the “post-deepfakes” world of generative AI.
What’s next for us? The Facet team is staying together and we are already hard at work on our next endeavor. We’ve got something super exciting cooking and we can’t wait to show it to the world.
